On a plane, the flight attendants tell you to put on YOUR oxygen mask first before you help others; because you CAN’T help anyone unless you help yourself first!

This podcast is for public safety professionals or anyone who cares for others in high-stress environments. We are focused on helping us all live the best life possible.

Your Oxygen Mask First is focused on helping those in the "helping professions" (public safety/first responders, medical, military, etc.) find resources to not only survive the work they do, but also help them live their best lives possible at the same time.

Before an airplane takes off, the flight attendants give their speech on oxygen masks, right? The message is, every time you get on that plane, before it ever leaves the ground: put your own oxygen mask on before you help others with theirs. That resonates so profoundly, if you are a “helper”, you CAN’T help anyone unless you help yourself first.  Go To Site...

A podcast for today's Wildland Firefighters. This podcast has many episodes on health and wellness of the mind and body. While much is known about the science of wildland fire behavior, the same cannot necessarily be said about our understanding of the impacts that these blazes have upon those tasked with putting them out. Although that knowledge base is slowly building, much remains to be learned about the psychological and behavioral health of wildland firefighters (WLFF’s)...

Thanks to the recent research efforts of clinical psychology doctoral student Patty O’Brien (a former Lolo Hotshot, and now Dr. O’Brien), we now know a great deal more. Patty was able to survey over 2600 current or former wildland firefighters to learn more about their demographic, employment, and clinical characteristics, as well as their health behaviors. In this, the tenth and final podcast of On the Line season three, Patty and her doctoral advisor Dr. Duncan Campbell join host Charlie Palmer to discuss some of her groundbreaking findings, and to chart out a course for future steps.  Go To Site...
